Panda Bears

The panda bear is classified as an endangered species. Their main threat is habitat loss since large areas of China's natural forest have been cleared for agriculture, timber and firewood, to fill the demand of the large and growing human population. The panda bears' dependence on bamboo makes them very vulnerable to the effects of habitat loss.

Endangered Species Handprints

The causes of the current extinction crisis are the activities of human beings. But we can also be part of the solution. Creating with our children is a great opportunity to discuss these beautiful animals and the threats they are facing.

1. Choose an endangered animal together. Look it up — find out where it lives, what it eats, why it is endangered.
2. Paint your child's hand in the colours of that animal.
3. Press the painted hand firmly onto paper to make a handprint.
4. Once dry, add the animal's name, IUCN status, and one fact about why it matters.
5. Display it somewhere visible — a bedroom wall, a classroom, a refrigerator.
