Youth Art Contest — Theme: Saving Endangered Species

Submissions due May 1 — Winners announced May 15 (Endangered Species Day)

All young artists of all ages are welcome to participate — participation is free! Express your knowledge of endangered species through creativity and art. Winners are chosen from 5 categories: Preschool and younger, K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. Winning artworks will be featured in a special exhibition and receive a prize.

Christmas Bird Count

Saturday, January 3 — Santa Barbara, CA

This event started over a century ago and relies on committed volunteers. It is a worldwide event taking place in different locations across many countries, between December 14 and January 5. This is a FREE event but requires signing up in advance. Join us in Santa Barbara or find a location near you.

Nature Walk — Monarch Butterfly Migration

Saturday, December 13 at 10:30 AM — Goleta Butterfly Grove, Ellwood Mesa, Goleta, CA

Witness one of nature's most breathtaking spectacles — the Monarch Butterfly Migration. The flight of the butterflies is the longest known distance that insects migrate on Earth, and the North American migration is recognized by the IUCN as an endangered biological phenomenon. One of the best spots to view this migration is the butterfly grove in Goleta, adjacent to Sperling Preserve on Ellwood Mesa.

Beach Clean Up Day

September 20 at 9:00 AM–12:00 PM — Refugio State Beach, CA

Join California Coastal Clean Up Day at Refugio State Beach, hosted by the Gaviota Coast Conservancy. This is both a local and international event held every September to clean our beaches and waterways. All ages are welcome! Help protect the marine habitats that endangered ocean wildlife depend on.
